Blender requests

Years of asking, still waiting.

The fixes and features Blender artists have voted for, argued for and filed again and again, that Blender 5.2 still doesn't have. Angelo is built on Blender and we can change it, so this is the list we're working from. Most of it we're considering; nothing here has a date.

Shipped1

In an Angelo release you can download today.

Planned0

Decided, and being built or tested. Not in a release yet.

Considering16

On our list to consider. No promise and no date.

Most asked, not yet delivered.

Ranked by public demand: votes on Blender's Right-Click Select, the size of the threads on projects.blender.org and devtalk, and how often the request was filed again. Every number says what it counts and links to where it came from.

  1. Layered, non-destructive texture painting

A layer stack for materials (paint, fill, procedural and mask layers) instead of hand-built node trees, as in Substance Painter.

Why Texturing in Blender means wiring nodes and juggling images, so many artists texture elsewhere or buy add-ons.

    Demand
Texturing Tools was picked 1,924 times in Blender's 2025 survey, the most of 16 projects; the design feedback thread has 318 posts and 31,364 views
    In Blender 5.2
Not delivered. A new design (2026) is open and not yet approved.
    Angelo
    Considering
  2. Animation layers

Named, blendable, maskable layers inside an action, as in Maya or MotionBuilder, instead of working around the NLA.

Why Layering corrections over motion capture or a base pass is everyday animation practice, and the NLA is widely seen as dated.

    Demand
Animation & Rigging was picked 1,520 times in the 2025 survey (2nd of 16 projects); Animation was the most-picked area, 1,351 times
    In Blender 5.2
Partly delivered. Slotted actions (4.4) laid the groundwork; layers are in progress and not in 5.2.
    Angelo
    Considering
  3. Fast edit mode and undo on heavy scenes

Instant edit-mode entry and fast undo on dense meshes and large scenes.

Why Entering edit mode or undoing on a multi-million-polygon mesh or a big scene stalls the work.

    Demand
Complex Scene Support was picked 1,173 times in the 2025 survey (3rd); the undo performance thread has 129 posts and 24,950 views
    In Blender 5.2
Partly delivered. Undo got faster in 4.2 and 5.1; a 2026 design says edit-mode entry still costs a lot of time and memory.
    Angelo
    Considering
  4. Select through the mesh without X-ray

Box, lasso and circle selection that reach the vertices, edges and faces behind the surface, while the view stays solid.

Why Today the only way is X-ray, which changes what you're looking at. 3ds Max, Maya and Houdini let you select through a solid view, and artists move between them.

    Demand
284 comments on design #73479; the devtalk thread has 589 posts and 68,808 views; at least 6 near-duplicate ideas on Right-Click Select
    In Blender 5.2
Not delivered. The design was never settled; pull requests from 2023 are still open and unmerged.
    Angelo
ShippedA Select Through toggle beside X-ray, off by default, so clicks work as before until you turn it on.
  5. Stylized and toon rendering

First-class toon and painterly shading in EEVEE: shadow and light ramps, lines and ink.

Why Anime and stylized studios need it, and building the look from shader tricks is fragile.

    Demand
Stylized Rendering was picked 1,111 times in the 2025 survey (4th); “NPR in 2.8” has 197 votes on Right-Click Select
    In Blender 5.2
Partly delivered. 5.1 added the Shader Raycast node; the NPR design task was archived and there is no complete toon pipeline.
    Angelo
    Considering
  6. Bake every map at once

Bake all PBR channels in one pass, with bake setups saved per object, instead of one map at a time through image nodes.

Why Exporting game-ready texture sets from Blender is slow and easy to get wrong.

    Demand
Baking Tools was picked 961 times in the 2025 survey (6th); “Bake all PBR principled slots” has 56 votes on Right-Click Select
    In Blender 5.2
Not delivered. It is part of the open layered-textures design.
    Angelo
    Considering
  7. CAD-style precision modeling

Dimensions and measurement, numeric constraints, a drawing toolset, NURBS and STEP/IGES import.

Why Architecture, product and hard-surface work needs exact sizes, which Blender serves poorly today.

    Demand
“CAD-like snapping (by basepoint)” has 555 votes, 3rd of 17,379 ideas on Right-Click Select; the precision modeling thread has 326 posts and 49,529 views
    In Blender 5.2
Partly delivered. Base-point snapping arrived in 4.0 and snap to grid in 4.2; dimensions, constraints, NURBS and CAD import are still missing.
    Angelo
    Considering
  8. Tension and stress maps

A built-in attribute or shader input that shows where a deforming mesh stretches or compresses.

Why It drives wrinkles, cloth folds and skin effects.

    Demand
    648 votes on Right-Click Select, 2nd of 17,379 ideas
    In Blender 5.2
Not delivered natively. Add-ons and Geometry Nodes setups fill in; we found no design task.
    Angelo
    Considering
  9. A UV checker in the viewport

A UV checker or grid overlay that needs no material edits, a stretch heat map in 3D and coloured flipped UVs.

Why Checking an unwrap today means swapping a checker texture into every material.

    Demand
470 votes on Right-Click Select, 5th of 17,379 ideas, plus related ideas with 119, 84 and 70 votes
    In Blender 5.2
Not delivered. A design for a viewport UV grid overlay opened in August 2026.
    Angelo
    Considering
  10. Render a region over the last render

A render border that updates only its region over the previous full render, and a better render window.

Why Look development loses its context when the rest of the frame goes blank on every iteration.

    Demand
438 votes on Right-Click Select; “New Render Window” has 246 more
    In Blender 5.2
Not delivered; no release from 4.0 to 5.2 mentions it.
    Angelo
    Considering
  11. Parallax occlusion mapping

A parallax occlusion option for cheap depth from height maps, especially in EEVEE.

Why Game engines have it, and it gives depth without dense geometry.

    Demand
403 votes on Right-Click Select; the devtalk thread has 139 posts and 61,640 views
    In Blender 5.2
Not delivered. Two to-do tasks are open, one of them confirmed with 64 comments.
    Angelo
    Considering
  12. A real group object

An object that holds others and moves them as one, like groups in 3ds Max, Maya or Cinema 4D.

Why Collections can't be transformed, and parenting to an empty is a workaround.

    Demand
    364 votes on Right-Click Select
    In Blender 5.2
Not delivered; collections and empties are still the only grouping, and we found no design task.
    Angelo
    Considering
  13. Sculpt layers

Non-destructive sculpt layers with their own strength, like ZBrush layers.

Why Trying a detail, an expression or a fix without committing to it.

    Demand
202 votes and none against on Right-Click Select; the sculpt layers add-on thread has 282 posts
    In Blender 5.2
Not delivered. The design is open but on hold and unprioritized.
    Angelo
    Considering
  14. A retopology toolset

A dedicated retopology mode with surface-aware snapping, relax and draw-on-surface tools, and better automatic quads.

Why Artists depend on paid add-ons such as RetopoFlow and Quad Remesher.

    Demand
“Dedicated Retopology Mode” has 103 votes on Right-Click Select, with related ideas at 73, 56 and 44
    In Blender 5.2
Partly delivered. The retopology overlay and QuadriFlow exist; designs for a retopology workflow and its snapping are open.
    Angelo
    Considering
  15. Edit every selected object at once

Alt-click and Alt-drag that work on every property for all selected objects, including knife, UV maps and modifier settings.

Why Many properties still change only the active object, so the same edit takes a script or many clicks.

    Demand
    Five Right-Click Select ideas with 61, 53, 52, 46 and 33 votes
    In Blender 5.2
Partly delivered. Alt works for modifiers since 4.2 and shape keys gained Copy to Selected in 5.0; a known issue lists where Alt-click still fails.
    Angelo
    Considering
  16. Modifiers on collections

One modifier stack on a whole collection or collection instance.

Why Non-destructive effects on a kitbashed group without joining its meshes.

    Demand
125 votes and 34 comments on Right-Click Select, with three related ideas and three marked duplicate
    In Blender 5.2
Not delivered as asked: Boolean takes a collection, but a collection can't hold a modifier stack.
    Angelo
    Considering
  17. Edit menus and pie menus without add-ons

Reorder and edit Quick Favorites, and build your own pie menus natively.

Why Artists depend on the Pie Menu Editor add-on to shape Blender around their hands.

    Demand
“Reorder Quick Favorites” has 130 votes on Right-Click Select, with related ideas at 85, 60 and 35
    In Blender 5.2
Not delivered, and we found no design task.

How we ranked it.

We read Blender's own channels: its 2025 user survey; Right-Click Select (RCS in the sources; blender.community, now read-only, so its votes are a record of past demand); the issue tracker and design tasks on projects.blender.org; and devtalk.blender.org. A request stays on the list only if Blender 5.2's release notes and the tracker show it isn't delivered; where Blender has delivered part of it, the entry says what is still missing. We left out requests outside what Angelo takes on, such as touch and Android devices and real-time multi-user editing.

Demand signals aren't directly comparable: a vote, a comment and a duplicate report each mean something different, so the order is a judgement from all of them, not a formula. Numbers were read on 30 October 2026 and will drift.

None of this is a criticism of Blender's developers. Many of these requests wait on a design decision or a small team's time, not on anyone's will, and several have open design tasks. Angelo builds on their work; when Blender ships one of these, we take theirs.

Status. Shipped means it is in an Angelo release you can download. Planned means we've decided to build it. Considering means it's on our list and nothing more: no promise and no date.

Missing one?

If a long-standing Blender request you care about isn't here, tell us where people asked for it. We'll read the thread and add it if the demand is there.
