Angelo documentation
How to install Angelo, connect a model and make your first change. Angelo is Blender with an AI agent built in, so what you know about Blender still applies.
What Angelo is#
Angelo is a version of Blender with an AI agent next to your scene. You describe a change in words, and the agent makes it with Blender's own tools: it adds and edits objects, materials, modifiers and animation, and it can generate images and 3D models. You see what it did, and you can still do everything by hand.
Angelo has its own version number, separate from Blender's. About shows both, for example “Angelo 1.0.0” and “Based on Blender 5.2.2 LTS”. The file format, the interface and the Python API are Blender's.
Angelo is licensed under the GPL, like Blender. It is made by Hyperbond Studio Pte. Ltd. and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Blender Foundation.
Install#
| System | Installer | Status |
|---|---|---|
| macOS, Apple silicon | Angelo-1.0.0-macos-arm64.dmg | Early access |
| Windows, 64-bit | Angelo-1.0.0-windows-x64.msi | Arrives with Angelo 1.0 |
macOS. Open the disk image and drag Angelo to Applications.
Windows. Run the installer. Angelo goes to C:\Program Files\Angelo.
The installers are listed on the releases page. Removing Angelo never touches your .blend files.
Next to Blender
Angelo and Blender install separately and can be open at the same time. Angelo keeps its settings, caches and add-ons in Angelo folders, so installing, updating or removing one never changes the other. On Windows, Angelo becomes the app that opens .blend files only when no other app has that job; to choose it yourself, right-click a .blend file, pick Open with, and choose Angelo.
Connect a model#
Angelo does not include a model. You use your own: a subscription you already have or an API key, and Angelo talks to that provider directly from your computer.
The first chat shows three ways in:
- Connect Claude uses your Claude subscription through the official Claude Code tool.
- Connect ChatGPT uses your ChatGPT subscription through the official Codex tool.
- Use an API key for Claude, OpenAI, Grok, MiniMax or Kimi.
Connect Claude and Connect ChatGPT need the official Claude Code or Codex tool on your computer; if it isn't there, Angelo says which one to install. Clicking Connect opens the provider's own sign-in in your browser. If you are already signed in to one of them, Angelo can point that out, but it connects only when you click.
Keys
API keys are kept in your computer's own store, the macOS Keychain or Windows Credential Manager, not in your .blend file or in a settings file. Turn Remember off and the key stays in memory only; you enter it again after a restart. Removing a connection erases its saved key.
Switching and limits
Each chat has a model picker, so you can switch between connections without losing the conversation. When a provider reports a usage limit, Angelo shows it in plain words with the reset time when the provider gives one, and offers to switch connection.
Your requests go from your computer to the provider you chose; Angelo's servers are not in between. The privacy policy has the details.
Make your first change#
Open Angelo's chat and describe what you want, in a sentence: “add a ring of twelve pillars around the origin” or “make the floor wet concrete”. The first chat also offers example prompts that work on the default scene; pick one to see how it goes.
Ask for one thing at a time while you learn what it does well. If you don't like a result, go back (below) and ask again with more detail, or just edit it by hand: it is still a Blender scene.
Stay in control#
Each chat has an approval setting that decides what the agent may do without asking:
| Setting | What it means |
|---|---|
| Ask before changes | You review each change to the scene. This is the default. General Python is always reviewed one script at a time. |
| Auto · bounded edits | Validated object edits and sculpting passes go ahead on their own. General Python still asks. |
| Read only | The agent can look at the scene and talk about it, but every change is refused. |
Go back#
By default Angelo saves a complete copy of your scene before it submits each request, and the request shows a restore link. Restore brings the scene, and the files Angelo wrote, back to that point.
You can choose instead to save a copy only before the first change you approve. Copies are stored without repeating what did not change: in a test, a 500 MB scene with eight copies took 246 MB instead of 4.09 GB. By default Angelo keeps up to 2 GB of copies.
Restore cannot undo what happened outside Blender, such as an export, a network call or a change made by a script to something other than your scene and the files Angelo wrote.
Images and 3D models#
Angelo can generate concept frames, reference boards, textures and materials, and 3D models. Generation uses its own connections, set up under AI Providers as Generative AI services with their own API keys. A ChatGPT or Claude subscription does not pay for generation, , and no provider is used as a fallback for another.
Multi-step jobs, for example a sketch that becomes a character sheet, then a turnaround, then a 3D model, are Generation Flows. They live in Blender's Node Editor as a node tree: the agent can build and run one for you, and you can open the same tree and edit it by hand.
Where Angelo keeps things#
| macOS | Windows | |
|---|---|---|
| Settings and add-ons | ~/Library/Application Support/Angelo | %APPDATA%\Angelo |
| Caches | ~/Library/Caches/Angelo | %LOCALAPPDATA%\Angelo |
| Connections (no keys) | ~/Library/Application Support/Angelo/connections | %LOCALAPPDATA%\Angelo |
Keys live in the Keychain or Credential Manager, as described above. Your .blend files are wherever you save them.
Blender is still Blender#
Everything that isn't the agent is Blender 5.2, and its manual applies: the Blender manual explains modelling, shading, animation, rendering and the rest. Angelo adds to Blender; it does not replace it, and it is only possible because of the people who build Blender. If Angelo helps you, consider supporting the Blender Development Fund.
