Docs/Start from a base mesh

Start from a base mesh

Begin a character from a clean, sculpt-ready mesh instead of a cube: pick a head, a body, hands or more from the + menu, then tell the agent what to make of it.

At a glance

  • Press + in the message box and pick one of 21 base meshes under Start from a base mesh.
  • It is added when you send your message, at the 3D cursor and at real size, before the agent starts.
  • One Undo step takes it out again.

01Pick one#

  1. Press + at the left of the message box. Under Start from a base mesh each row shows the mesh's name, its height and its vertex count.
  2. Click one. It appears above the message box as a teal chip marked Start from. One mesh per message: picking another replaces it, and the chip's × removes it.
  3. Type what you want, for example “sculpt this into an old sailor with a broad nose”, and send. Type a message with your pick: the mesh is added when you send.

The menu scrolls with the wheel or trackpad; ↑ ↓ move through it and Return picks.

02What happens when you send#

  • If you're in Edit or Sculpt mode, Angelo switches to Object mode first.
  • The mesh is added at the 3D cursor, at real size. With an object selected, the menu offers Match the size of …: turn it on and the mesh is centred on that object and scaled to its height instead.
  • The new mesh is selected and active, ready for the agent or for you.
  • The chat notes it (“Added … to start from”). The step is one Undo, Start from a base mesh, and it happens before the request's snapshot, so restoring that snapshot keeps the mesh.

If a mesh can't be added, the chat says why, nothing is left behind, and your message is still sent.

03The 21 meshes#

They are Blender's own Human Base Meshes (version 1.4.1, by the Blender community and the Blender Studio, CC0), with eyes and clean topology, facing front. The names are theirs, spelling included.
