Updates and What's New

Angelo keeps itself up to date: it fetches a new version in the background and installs it when you choose Restart to Update. What's New then tells you what changed.

At a glance

  • Angelo checks about once a day. Nothing installs until you click Restart to Update, and your file opens again afterwards.
  • Turn automatic checks off in Preferences ▸ System ▸ Updates and Reports.
  • Help ▸ What's New shows this version's notes any time; every release is on the releases page.

01How updates arrive#

About 20 seconds after it starts, and then about once a day, Angelo checks for a new version. The check sends only Angelo's version, your system and processor type: no account, scene or identifier.

When there is one, Angelo downloads it quietly and then shows a card: Angelo 1.x is ready, with the highlights and Restart to Update. Unsaved work? Angelo asks first (Save and Restart, Don't Save or Cancel) and opens your file again after the update. While the agent, a render, a preview or a generation is still running, the button waits and says why. Later hides the card for three days; Skip this version skips it.

In Manual mode the status bar keeps a reminder next to the version; in Director, the top bar does. Check yourself any time with Help ▸ Check for Updates… (in Director, the mode button on the right of the top bar has it).

When Angelo can't update itself

Then the card offers Download instead, and says why:

  • macOS: Angelo must run from your Applications folder (or another folder you can write to), not from the disk image.
  • Windows (coming soon): the normal installer installs Angelo for you alone, in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Angelo, and that copy updates itself. A copy installed for all users is updated by your administrator.

To stop automatic checks, turn off Check Automatically in Preferences ▸ System ▸ Updates and Reports. Check Now is there too. Your organization may manage update checks for you.

02What's New and release notes#

After an update, What's New shows once, when the window settles: the version, the Blender it's based on, and what changed. Show everything in this release opens the full list. See it again any time from Help ▸ What's New, from About Angelo, or from Preferences ▸ System ▸ Updates and Reports.

Help ▸ Release Notes opens every release on this site, with what's coming next.

03If Angelo quits unexpectedly#

The next time you open Angelo, a dialog says Angelo quit unexpectedly. In this version reports can't be sent from the app yet: use Save report… to keep it, and Report on the website to tell us what happened (it fills in your system and version). Show the report shows exactly what it contains.

A report holds technical details only: where the program stopped, your operating system and graphics card. Never your scenes, prompts, chats, files, file names or keys. Preferences ▸ System ▸ Updates and Reports ▸ Crash Reports sets whether Angelo asks.
