At a glance

  • .blend files, the interface, the keymap and the Python API are Blender's.
  • Angelo installs beside Blender and keeps its own settings; nothing is shared or changed in Blender's folders.
  • Import Blender Settings brings your preferences, shortcuts, add-ons and presets over, and can be undone.

01What stays the same#

Everything that isn't the agent is Blender 5.2.2: modelling, sculpting, shading, animation, Cycles and EEVEE, Geometry Nodes, the keymap and the Python API (with Blender's Python 3.13). Your .blend files open as usual, and the Blender manual applies. Extensions come from the same extensions.blender.org as in Blender.

What Angelo adds:

  • The chat and its two modes (The chat and its modes), with your own model (Models and AI Providers).
  • Generative AI for images and 3D, and Generation Flows (Generative AI and Flows).
  • Cycles on your GPU by default (Rendering on the GPU).
  • An Angelo menu, Help that opens these pages, Angelo Dark and Angelo Light themes, and a teal top bar so you can tell Angelo and Blender apart.

02Next to Blender#

Angelo and Blender install separately and can be open at the same time. Angelo keeps its settings, caches and add-ons in its own folders, and never writes to Blender's.

The folder is named after the Blender version (5.2), not Angelo's.

03Bring your settings over#

Nothing is copied from Blender unless you ask. There are two ways:

  • On first launch, the Set up Angelo card has Use my Blender settings. Turn it on and click Continue. (Esc skips the card without saving your language, look or import.)
  • Any time later, choose File ▸ Defaults ▸ Import Blender Settings… (also in Preferences' menu). A card says what will be replaced and what is kept; click Import.

Angelo picks the newest Blender you used, from 5.2 back to 4.0, and backs up its own settings first. Afterwards a note says what came over and names any add-on that didn't load; fix or turn it off in Preferences ▸ Add-ons. Startup scripts, fonts and colour management take effect the next time you open Angelo.

Add-ons come over as they are, Blender's own MCP add-on included; it runs outside Angelo's approvals, snapshots and Undo (Claude Code and Codex).

To go back, choose File ▸ Defaults ▸ Undo Settings Import: your earlier settings return and the files the import added are removed. Blender's folder is only ever read.

04Your files#

Angelo saves ordinary .blend files. Chats, snapshots and approvals are kept in Angelo's own folder, never inside the file, so a file you share carries no conversation. On Windows the installer makes Angelo the app for .blend files only when no other app has that job; choose it yourself with Open with.

Angelo is free software under the GNU GPL, like Blender, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Blender Foundation. If it helps you, consider supporting the Blender Development Fund.
