Working in Director

Director is the view Angelo opens in: your scene and the chat, with the rest of Blender out of the way. The top bar carries what you need while you work, so you can stay here for most jobs.

At a glance

  • One 3D view on the left and the chat on the right. You orbit, select and move things as in Blender, and its shortcuts work.
  • The top bar keeps Blender's menus and adds what Director hides: messages, running jobs, updates, the render engine and a few view tools.
  • Switch to Manual when you need Blender's other editors. How to switch is in The chat and its modes.

01What's on screen#

Director shows one 3D view and the chat beside it. Hidden are Properties, the Outliner, the Timeline, the workspace tabs, the status bar, and the 3D view's header, toolbar and sidebar, with the floor grid, the axes and the 3D cursor. Selected objects keep their outlines, and cameras and lights still show.

Director works on a copy of your workspace, so nothing in your own layout changes. Hide the chat and the 3D view takes the whole window; Angelo then waits in the view's corner to bring it back.

Everything else starts from the chat's + menu: attachments, Media Studio, video, rendering tools, base meshes and the rest (Find every feature).

02The top bar#

From left to right:

ItemWhat it does
Blender's menusAngelo, File, Edit, Render, Window and Help, each item with its shortcut, as in Manual mode. In a narrow window they fold into one menu.
New in 1.0.8 Select ThroughShown while you're in Edit Mode, or in the other modes where it works: box, lasso and circle selection also reach what is hidden behind the surface (Select Through).
New in 1.0.8 UV checkerIts button turns the checker on or off over every mesh in the view, and looks pressed while it's on; the arrow beside it opens its settings (UV checker).
Messages and progressWhat the status bar would show: error and info messages, Blender's running jobs, and the agent's background job with a button to cancel it or open its result.
UpdatesWhen a new version is available, the top bar says so, and shows Restart to Update once it's ready (Updates).
Engine linkWhile a game engine's asset is linked, its state, for example Live in Godot: crate.glb, with the link's menu (Game engine link).
Chat, Studio, FlowsOn the right: show or hide the chat, open Media Studio in its own window, and open your Generation Flows.
New in 1.0.8 Render engineNames the scene's engine, such as EEVEE or Cycles · Final. Click it to choose EEVEE, Cycles · Preview, Cycles · Final, AI Render… or an engine you installed (Render engines).
Director / ManualThe mode menu, with Welcome to Angelo, Check for Updates… and What's New (Switching).
SceneWhich scene you're looking at. Adding and deleting scenes is in Manual mode.

When the bar is short of room, Studio, Flows and the render engine show their icons only.

03The Sessions panel#

While the agent builds a scene in parts with parallel edit, the Sessions panel stands in the 3D view: one tile for your main session and one for each worker. Its minimize button turns it into a round button at the top right of the view, which counts the workers and shows a dot while one waits for your approval. Click it to bring the panel back.

04Work in Director#

  1. Describe what you want in the chat and send it. The agent works in the 3D view in front of you.
  2. Look around and make your own changes as in Blender: orbit with the middle mouse button or the trackpad, select, move with G, press Tab for Edit Mode. The chat keeps your typing only while you're typing in it; press Esc to give the keyboard back to the 3D view.
  3. Check the render engine in the top bar before you render, and press F12 or use Render ▸ Render Image as in Blender.
  4. Save with File ▸ Save or ⌘ S (Ctrl S on Windows).

05When to switch to Manual#

Director has no editors besides the 3D view. Switch to Manual when you want to:

  • Edit settings by hand in Properties, or organise objects in the Outliner.
  • Animate with the Timeline, the Dope Sheet or the Graph Editor.
  • Use the node editors, the UV Editor, the Image Editor or any other Blender editor, or the workspace tabs.
  • Browse the Asset Shelf, or keep Media Studio and Generation Flows open as tabs.
  • Add or delete scenes, or work with view layers.
  • Dock the chat on the left, or pop it out into its own window.

Your Manual layout comes back exactly as you left it, and switching back to Director keeps your chat and the message you were typing.
