Parallel edit

New in 1.0.6 For a big scene, the agent can split the work into parts that worker agents build at the same time, each in a file of its own. You watch them live in the Sessions panel, and the finished parts are merged into your scene.

At a glance

  • On by default on Macs and PCs that can run it. There is nothing to turn on.
  • Preferences ▸ AI Providers ▸ Parallel edit sets Workers at once, and says what's missing on a computer that can't run it.
  • Merging brings each part into your scene as one Undo step.

01Build a scene in parts#

  1. Ask for something big, such as a whole street or a room full of furniture, or ask the agent to split the scene into parts. The agent decides how to split it.
  2. In a chat set to Ask for approval, a card names every part first; approve it to start. In Approve for me the workers start at once.
  3. The Sessions panel appears in the 3D view: your main session first, then a tile for each worker with its progress. Parts beyond Workers at once wait for a free place and start in order.
  4. Click a worker's tile to watch it build in the big view, or to send it a message. Click the Main tile to come back to your scene. When a worker needs your approval, its tile says so; answer it there.
  5. As parts finish, the agent merges them into your scene. In Ask, a card shows first. If the agent's turn ended while workers were still building, Angelo continues the chat once they have all finished, so their parts get merged.

Each part lands where its worker built it, or where the agent places copies of it, with its collections. A merge is one Undo step, so one Undo takes a part back out.

02The Sessions panel#

A worker's tile says what it is doing:

Tile saysMeaning
Waiting for a free placeMore parts than Workers at once: it starts when another worker finishes.
Starting, Building…The worker is setting up or building its part, with its steps and progress.
Waiting for your approvalIt has a card for you. Answer it on the tile.
Done, waiting for mergeIts part is saved and ready to merge.
Merged into your sceneIts part is in your scene.
Stopped with an errorThe worker stopped. Its chat says why.

When the tiles don't fit, the panel pages through the workers, with a +N more row at each end. The panel's minimize button turns it into a round button at the top right of the view that counts the workers; click it to bring the panel back.

Choose where the panel stands in Preferences ▸ AI Providers ▸ Parallel edit ▸ Sessions panel: Left, Top or Bottom of the 3D view.

03Workers at once#

  1. Open Preferences ▸ AI Providers and find the Parallel edit section.
  2. Under Workers at once, choose Suggested (the default, with the number this computer fits) or 1, 2, 4, 8 or 16.

A number above the suggestion is allowed. The setting then warns that other apps may slow down or workers may fail to start. A change applies to the next parts the agent starts.

04What your computer needs#

Each worker is a background Angelo of its own, so parallel edit needs a graphics card (GPU), enough memory for Angelo and at least two workers, and eight processor cores. Below that, parallel edit is off on that computer: the agent never splits a scene, no Sessions panel appears, and the Parallel edit section says what is missing, for example “Parallel edit needs a GPU, which this computer doesn't have.” Everything else in Angelo works as usual.

05When workers stop#

Opening another file stops the workers, and nothing they built before it is merged. When a worker stops for any reason (its file was replaced, your document changed, or its background Angelo stopped running), its chat says why and gives back any message it hadn't sent yet. A part that was already merged stays in your scene, and Undo takes it out.
