DocsPhoto to 3D model
From a photo to a 3D model
New in 1.0.8Drop a photo on the 3D view and choose what it becomes: a 3D model standing where you dropped it, a reference for the chat, a material, or a picture in the scene. Two clicks, no import dialog.
Turn a photo into a 3D model#
- Connect a 3D model provider once: Tripo, Meshy, or fal for TRELLIS 2, in Preferences ▸ AI Providers ▸ Media generation (Connect a provider).
- Drag a PNG or JPEG photo from Finder or Explorer onto the 3D view, at the spot where the model should stand. A teal ring marks the spot and the card What should this photo become? opens beside it.
- Check the Make a 3D model row: it names the model, the account that pays and the estimated price. With several 3D models connected, a picker above the rows chooses which one bills.
- Click Make a 3D model. The photo goes to Media Studio and the model is made there, like any generation. The spot shows the progress, and you can keep working.
- When it's ready, the model is placed standing at that spot and selected, as one Undo step. If you are in Edit Mode or in the middle of a tool then, it waits and is placed once you are back in Object Mode.
In Director and Manual alike. Return never picks a row for you; Cancel, Esc or a click outside the card changes nothing.
The card's choices#
| Choice | What it does | When it's available |
|---|---|---|
| Make a 3D model | Makes a 3D model from the photo and places it where the photo landed. | A PNG or JPEG photo, and a 3D model account connected. Without one, the row asks you to connect one and opens AI Providers. |
| Use as a reference | Attaches the photo to the chat's next message, and shows the chat if it was hidden. | A PNG, JPEG or WebP photo, while the agent isn't working on a reply. |
| Use as a material | Gives the object you dropped it on the photo as its material. One Undo step. | When the photo lands on a mesh object. |
| Add as a picture | Adds the photo as a reference image standing at that spot, facing the view. One Undo step. | Always. |
A row you can't use says why. If you drop several photos at once, the card uses the first one and says so.
Good to know#
- The model is placed only into the file and scene you dropped the photo in. If you open another file meanwhile, the model stays in Media Studio and a notice says so.
- Placing lasts for this session: after a restart, the finished model is in Media Studio for you to add.
- A failed or stopped generation raises a notice with the reason. The same paid-generation rules as Media Studio apply: nothing is retried automatically.
- A photo dropped onto a camera view keeps Blender's own camera background drop.
